‘FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF MOUNT DORA’

January 2 – February 28
9:45 am – Multipurpose Room

Beginning on Sunday January 2, 2022 and continuing through February, the adult SS class will study lessons from two of the Ray Vander Laan series entitled “Promised Land” and “Prophets And Kings.” We will see how God’s chosen people would settle into the Promised Land and influence the rest of the world. As we study the people and events of the Bible in their geographical, historical, and cultural contexts, our understanding of God’s Word will deepen and grow. The more we understand God’s mission through the Israelites, the better we will understand God’s purpose for our own lives today.
Each lesson is independent and there is no problem if one has to miss a lesson. We hope you can join us for these lessons led by Ray Vander Laan, whose enthusiasm for the Bible is joyful and extremely contagious!

January 16th – This week’s video is titled “First Fruits”. Last week we studied how the Jordan River was crossed by the Israelites as they entered the Promised Land. This week we will study their first conquest – the city of Jericho. The battle for Jericho clearly was God’s battle. God orchestrated His will, using the obedient Israelites as His instruments. He brought about a miraculous victory that caused the pagan Canaanites to fear and respect Israel’s God even more. He also wanted the Israelites to remember that everything they had – including the victory over Jericho – came from Him, and to trust Him to continue to provide for them. So after Jericho fell, God required Israel to leave Jericho’s ruins as their “first fruits” offering to Him. The ruins were to be left as a testimony that the land belonged to God and that those who lived in it sought to serve Him.  For some background, read Joshua 5:13 – 6:27

Hope to see you in class. Bring a friend.
