Hope - First Sunday of Advent - November 30, 2025

Advent begins with a call to hope—hope that is not naïve or fragile, but rooted in the steadfast promises of God. In Isaiah 40:1–8, God speaks words of comfort to a weary people: their struggle is seen, their pain is known, and a new way is being prepared. Human efforts and human glory may fade like grass, but the word and faithfulness of God stand forever. Hope begins here: in the God who does not forget His people.

In Luke 21:25–36, Jesus acknowledges that the world can be frightening—full of signs and upheaval that shake confidence. Yet He urges His followers not to collapse in fear or numbness. Instead, He says, “Stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” Hope is not denial of trouble; it is the courage to look up, trusting that God is already at work.

Together, these passages remind us that Advent hope is active and expectant. It steadies us when the world feels uncertain. It invites us to watch, to prepare, and to keep our hearts open. And it assures us that the God who once came near in Jesus will come again—bringing comfort, renewal, and the fulfillment of every promise.
